Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida
Our students are 16 to 80 years old and would like to…
  • improve reading, writing or math skills.
  • enter a GED or job training program.
  • look for a better job.
  • learn more about money, health, or computers.
  • be more involved in family, faith, and community activities.

And best of all – THERE IS NO COST TO THE STUDENT!

What our students are saying

I was looking for a place to learn and to grow and to pursue my dreams. I can read better and understand what I read, as well as solve math problems I couldn’t do before. It takes hard work and motivation on my part, and the Literacy Alliance provides the teachers, classes, and kindness to help people at no cost. I am so grateful and thankful for the Literacy Alliance.

What our volunteers are saying

I have watched a parade of hopeful people come through my classroom and I have been awed by their courage and resiliency. They have gotten their driver’s licenses, jobs and promotions, found the confidence to leave abusive partners, read street signs and fortune cookies and medicine bottles and Bibles and business letters and textbooks and stories to children. All of this I have watched and my students have watched each other and we have all cheered.

LITERACY IS A FUNDAMENTAL SKILL THAT AFFECTS EVERY AREA OF A PERSON’S LIFE.

And it isn’t just about reading—literacy involves the ability to read, write, speak and comprehend. It involves being able to compute, solve problems, and to have the skills needed to function on the job.

Our goal at the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida is 100% literacy on the First Coast to develop a community with a competitive workforce and a thriving citizenry. We seek to empower our students as they work towards their personal literacy goals, recognizing that gains in adult literacy also transform our community by reducing poverty, adding to the workforce, and creating new leaders in our area.
